What is escitalopram?
Escitalopram (generic Lexapro) is a prescription drug used to treat depression and generalized anxiety disorder (GAD).
While effective in treating symptoms of depression and anxiety, escitalopram has been shown in rare cases to increase suicidal thoughts and actions in patients under the age of 24. Patients should only begin escitalopram under the supervision of their provider. What are common side effects of escitalopram?
While adverse reactions to escitalopram are rare, some patients who take the drug may experience mild side effects, including insomnia, ejaculation disorder (primarily ejaculatory delay), nausea, increased sweating, fatigue, and drowsiness, decreased libido, and anorgasmia (difficulty achieving orgasm).
