What is fluoxetine?
Fluoxetine (generic Prozac) is a prescription drug used to treat major depressive disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), PTSD, bulimia, and panic disorder.
What are common side effects of fluoxetine?
While adverse reactions to fluoxetine are rare, some patients who take the drug experience mild side effects, including abnormal dreams, abnormal ejaculation, anorexia, anxiety, weakness or lack of energy, diarrhea, dry mouth, indigestion, flu syndrome, impotence, insomnia, libido decreased, nausea, nervousness, soreness of the throat or sinus, rash, drowsiness, sweating, tremor, and low blood pressure.
Rare, more serious adverse events have also been known to occur. If you are concerned that fluoxetine is causing any number of these side effects, please contact your doctor.
In rare cases, this and other SSRIs have been shown in rare cases to increase suicidal thoughts and actions in patients under the age of 24. Patients should only begin escitalopram under the supervision of their provider.
